Spring Outdoor Wedding Cake

The brides focus for this wedding cake was all about the right flowers. The soft color palette came from a photo the bride liked at https://www.flickr.com/photos/cupcakesbyjanelle/6304512920/ However she wanted brighter/darker pink peonies mixed with the colors. The cake I made is the result. It turned out beautifully if I say so myself. All of the flowers used are artificial but such good quality that several people asked if they were real or had to go up and touch them. The outdoor reception was one of the prettiest I have ever seen. The only thing I did not like was the cake table sat in direct sun light and so the slightest imperfection in the fondant was magnified 1,000 times in the bright sunshine thus the fondant did not have the smoothest of appearances. (Ughh!) The cake is a 4 tier using 14", 12", 10" and 8" rounds. The top tier is three layers high, the rest are the standard two high. The cake flavor was white with butter-cream frosting covered in Satin Ice fondant. Each tier was finished off at the bottom with white satin ribbon. This cake serves about 195 people. BTW: After you measure off the length of ribbon you need use a match or candle flame and burn across the ends. This will keep your ribbon from fraying on the ends when you wrap it. A close-up of the flowers. The cake was ordinary, the flowers are what made it extraordinary! Keep this in mind as you choose flowers for your wedding cake. A close-up of the flowers. Though everything was lovely, a shady spot for the cake table would have been better. Though everything was lovely, a shady spot for the cake table would have been better.
