Steinway Grand Piano Cake

This cake was so fun. It started as a 9x13 single layer "Texas Marble" sheet cake. I carved it into the shape of the piano. Then frosted with butter-cream and covered in fondant. The gold leafed pages and the Steinway & Sons emblem were painted with food-grade edible Gold glaze. BTW: The legs that support the cake board the piano is sitting on came from a second hand thrift store. They were attached to a wooden wall hanging for a kids room used to hang-up jackets or hats. I simply cut three of the pegs off and smoothed the bottoms. . .and viola ---piano legs! This cake was so fun. It started as a 9×13 single layer “Texas Marble” sheet cake. Here is an above shot to show detail. From the correct placement of middle C down to exactly 88 keys. This is what a Steinway Grand piano looks like in real life --as far as the keyboard goes at least.

A close-up of the sheet music and roses. At first I was actually thinking of putting real notes to a song on the sheet music but I did not have the time.

I took off the top so you can see the detail to the inside as well. Crazy thing about cakes. This cake took as long to make as a large 4 tiered wedding cake that would serve 200 plus guests, but when all is said and done this Steinway & Sons Grand Piano cake feeds 15 people.

Front view. The entire stool is edible. The piano is completely edible with an exception to the legs and the supports joining the foot pedals. BTW: the supports joining the foot pedals are two q-tips with the cotton pulled off the ends and painted black There is a third painted q-tip as well holding up the lid.
