Here is an example of a great way to save some money and get a beautiful vintage lace look on your wedding cake. Buy lace you love and stick it on the cake. It saves hours and hours of decorating and piping out the lace look. Saves time & money and looks beautiful, vintage and elaborate without the elaborate expense! BTW: Just make sure your lace is in proportion to your tier. Higher tier the wider the lace needs to be, so as to not get “lost” on the cake. Also make certain you remove all pins with the lace as you cut & serve the cake –you will need to use a little more precaution, but the look is well worth the added effort.
The cake table. This 4 tier cake is alternating chocolate and white layers frosted in butter-cream and covered in made from scratch (peach tinted) marshmallow fondant. The bottom and second layer from the top are decorated in a diamond pattern with edible pearls at the intersections. The top and second from the bottom layers are accented with a fabric/lace applique that is attached with pearl headed pins. The cake pan sizes are 14″, 12″, 10″ and 8″. The top and third tier being three layers high while the second and fourth tiers are the standard two layers high. This cake serves about 225 people.
A close-up of the beautiful lace and silk flowers. What a lovely piece of vintage elegance. The lace already had several pearls sewn into it so the “few” pearl headed pins used to anchor it on blended in quite well.
